Thekkady At an altitude of 1200 m above sea level it is located in the midst of Periyar wildlife sanctuary .A boat safari on the Periyar lake is the main attraction here. As the area never gets too cold in the winter months and doesn't have too harsh summer, Periyar is a great tourist area all year round. This is one of the few Indian reserve forests which allow trekking. You can also have an elephant safari through the forest to see the wild life in their natural habitat.

St. Thomas Church, Malayattoor Malayattoor near Kochi is famous for the St. Thomas Catholic Church, located on top of the Malayattoor hill, at a height of 609 m. Dedicated to St. Thomas, the apostle of Jesus Christ who came to India long ago. A combination of Greco-Roman architecture with the altar designed in traditional Greek style, and the front portion of the church following the traditional Roman Catholic Church architecture. Thousands of pilgrims gather here for the annual festival of 'Malayatoor Perunnal', held during the months of March /April.

Basilica De Bom Jesus, Goa Basilica of Bom Jesus is located in Old Goa and is one of the most popular churches in Goa and a World Heritage Site. It is famous for the preserved mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. The Basilica constructed around 1695 and is India's first minor cathedral. Supposed to be the best example of decorative Christian architecture in India, the church's interior is built in the Mosaic-Corinthian style. The floor is made of pure white marble, decorated with semi-precious stones. The elaborately adorned altar is covered with gold and walls are decorated with paintings of the saint.

VailankanniThe presence of the lofty Vailankanny church-Our lady of health attracts pilgrims of every religion from every corner of India. It is believed that Mary, the virgin mother, appeared here with infant Jesus in the late 16th century. You can also visit Kodaikanal-the hill station on the way back from Vailankanni.

Shrine of Blessed Alphonsa The mortal remains of the Blessed Alphonsa are entombed at this church which is now a famous pilgrim centre. Thousands gather at this holy shrine during the annual festival: Feast of the Blessed Alphonsa (July).

GuruvayoorThe pilgrim centre Guruvayoor is one of the most sacred and important pilgrim centres of Kerala. Sree Krishna temple is also known as 'Bhooloka Vaikuntam' and 'Dwaraka of the south'. Devotees make many offerings here to propitiate the deity for health, wealth and prosperity.

SabarimalaOne of the most famous pilgrim centres in India, Sabarimala is situated on the mountain ranges of the Western Ghats at an altitude of 914 m above sea level and is accessible only by foot from Pamba (4 km). The temple is dedicated to Sree Ayyappa. However, entry not allowed to women between 10 and 50 years of age.

KaladiKaladi  is pilgrim center on the banks of Periyar and lies near to Angamali. Known as the birth place of the great Indian Philosopher Sri Adi Sankara Acharya there are two shrines of Sri Adi Sankaracharya here. One dedicated to him as Dakshinamurthy and the other to Goddess Sarada and is maintained by the Sringeri Mutt. There is  also an ancient Srikrishna Temple close by which was the family temple of Sankaracharya. Another temple known as International temple dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna Deva has been built with a hope that it would become a temple for all religions and an abode of peace.

Amarnath cave temple Amarnath cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva lies in the Himalayan mountain range. The Amarnath temple is around 46 kms from Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir and 4500 mtrs above the sea level. An enshrined image of ice naturally formed in a cylindrical form which resembles Lord Shiva-Linga, begins to take its shape on the first day of the bright half of the month and reaches its full size on the full moon day (Poornima). After getting its fullest shape, it begins to wane and disappear on the new moon day. According to the tradition, the largest ice formation is considered as Lord Shiva Linga, one on the left side of the linga is an ice formation of Lord Ganesha, and on the right are formations of Parvati and Bhairava. The time of pilgrimage to this holy shrine is between July and August.

Lakhs of pilgrims visit this holy shrine every year. The yathra to Amarnath begins at Srinagar on the month of shravan. Subsequent halts are at Avantipur, Brijbihara, Martand, Pahalgam, Chandanwadi, Wavjan and the Mahagunus Pass. From here, the Amarnath cave is reached on the full moon day.
goto top Cheraman Juma Masjid Cheraman Juma Masjid is located 2 km from Kodungalloor town and is the first mosque in India and the second in the world where Juma prayers were started. This mosque built in AD 629, resembles a Hindu temple in appearance. Other places of interest nearby include Cheramanparambu, the ancient Thiruvanchikulam Temple, the Bhagavathi Temple and the Portuguese fort.

Malik Dinar Mosque A historical Mosque in Kasargode district of Kerala, founded by Malik Ibn Dinar. The mosque holds a sacred importance to the Muslims as it has the grave of Malik Ibn Mohammed, one of the descendants of Malik Ibn Dinar. The Juma Masjid located in Thalangara is one of the best kept and attractive mosques in the district. A local festival is celebrated every year to commemorate the arrival of Malik Ibn Dinar.

Kazimar Big Mosque Kazimar Big Mosque next to Meenakshi Temple and Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal in Madurai. Maqbara the dargah of famous Madurai Hazrats is also located inside the mosque campus. Hazrat Kazi Syed Tajuddin, who came from Oman during late 12th century, constructed the mosque which is the earliest Muslim place of worship in Madurai.

Aasfi Masjid Built in 1784 by Asaf-ud-Daula, the Aasfi Masjid also called Shahi Masjid with two tall minarets in the courtyard. An imambara, the tomb of a Shi'ite Muslim holy man as a famine relief project is located nearby. The central hall of the Imambara, 50 metres long and 15 metres high, is one of the largest vaulted galleries in the world and the roof has been put together with interlocking bricks without using a beam or a girder.

Charminar The Charminar is an impressive square monument with four minarets, a massive arch built by Mohammed Quli Qutab Shah, in 1591 to commemorate the end of the plague in the city and has become a symbol of the city. The monument is a magnificent square edifice of granite, built upon four grand arches facing North, South, East and West. At each corner of the square structure is a minaret. It is these four (char) minarets (minar) that give the building, its name 'Charminar'. Each minar stands on a lotus-leaf base, a special recurrent motif in Qutub Shahi buildings.

Tipu Sultan Mosque Tipu Sultan's Mosque or the Dharamtollah Mosque was constructed by Mohammed, the son of Tipu Sultan in 1842. The Mosque is double-aisled, with multiple domes and tall corner towers. The rounded arches and meticulous details drawn from classical architecture lend it a subtle European air.
